Principal photography has begun in Calabar, Nigeria, on “Half Of A Yellow Sun,” the adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Orange Prize-winning novel that follows the divergent paths of glamorous, highly educated sisters who get swept up in the Nigerian Civil War. Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anika Noni Rose and Joseph Mawle star alongside newcomer John Boyega. The cast of “Half Of A Yellow Sun” includes Nigerian household names Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji and veteran Zack Orji.
The adaption is directed by Nigerian theater director, playwright and novelist Biyi Bandele and produced by Andrea Calderwood and Gail Egan. The film will feature original music by Nigerian songwriter Cobhams Asuquo and singer-songwriter Keziah Jones. Financing was provided by the UK Film Council and British Film Institute. Ealing Metro is selling international rights to the project at Cannes’ Marche du Film.
