Ini Edo, Monalisa Chinda attend the premiere of short film on Autism – ‘Silver Lining’

The premiere of the much anticipated movie Silver Lining was held on Sunday (May 27th 2012) at the Ventures Koral Reef, Ikoyi Lagos. Nollywood stars such as Desmond Elliot, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, Susan Peters, Emem Isong were present to show their support. The short movie focuses on Autism.     I thought the same thing about the term Nollywood , as well. When the video cluutre and the means of production are evolving so differently in Nigeria, it seems unfair to lump the industry into the cutesy -ollywood -ing of international film markets. Okome’s claim that Nollywood has done well in its attempts to maintain appreciable autonomy further highlight this discrepancy, as do the strong assertions of the filmmakers in This is Nollywood that their films are truly crafted for Nigerians by Nigerians, depicting a unique cross-section of their cluutre in the face of domination by foreign media. Like many post-colonial aspects of Nigeria, however, Nollywood continues to seek redefinition and growth, and it will be fascinating to see more about the film industry’s development.
