Whitney Houston Drowned After Cocaine Binge

Singer Whitney Houston, died from accidental drowning caused partly by the effects of heart disease and cocaine abuse, a coroner ruled yesterday.

The 48 year old, who was found dead in a hotel bath, had mixed cocaine with marijuana and prescription medication on the night she died on February 11.  She had been a chronic user of cocaine, the results of a toxicology report found.

Marijuana along with prescription drugs including the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, painkiller Flexeril and anti-histamine Benadryl were also found in her system but did not contribute to her death. Her official cause of death was “drowning, effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use”.

The singer was buried in a New Jersey cemetery next to her father after a funeral service that was attended by friends, family and stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Alicia Keys, Kevin Costner, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson and Robert Flack.
