James Ibori bags 13 years for £50m fraud

James Ibori, the former governor of oil rich Delta state was sentenced to 13 years  in jail, yesterday at the Southwark Crown Court in London after admitting fraud totalling nearly £50million. Ibori was formerly employed as a cashier by Wickes, a DIY store in north London. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, he was in the process of buying a £12.5 million jet aircraft and had acquired several large homes and luxury cars before his arrest. The CPS vowed to find his illegally obtained assets in a bid to recover some of the money. Ibori (aged 59) systematically defrauded his people while serving as the governor of Delta State.

I wonder why it had to take another country to uncover a fraud case of this magnitude. This says so much about the Nigerian legal system.
