Imo women have been called upon to remain home builders for the unity of the populace instead of allowing themselves to be used by mischief makers to distort the peace and tranquility of the society.
Sir Jude Ejiogu made this call on Friday, December 30th, 2016 while receiving in audience Imo women of Owerri Federal Constituency extraction numbering over five hundred who were on a solidarity visit to him at his country home, Umuakuru Emekuku in Owerri North LGA of Imo State.
The immediate past Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI) therefore commended them for remaining committed in the discharge of their duties as women, describing them as most reliable political partners whose supports remain undivided inspite of the pressure.
According to him, women have always played major role not only in their various homes, but in the political system of the state, adding that if the men could be focus like their women counterparts, there would be no need to hit up the polity for self aggrandizements.
Sir Ejiogu who is the Apex Leader of Owerri Federal Constituency thanked them for the role they played during the 2015 general elections in the state, maintaining that if not their efforts, it would have been very difficult for the All Progressive Congress (APC) to win in the constituency.
He therefore appealed to them not to panic for any reason or allow anyone to use them as instrument of destruction against the present administration, while charging them to continue to support the ruling party in the state, saying that APC remains the only platform that has all it takes to quell the current economic recession in the country.
Speaking, leader and coordinator of the group, Lady Agnes Opara stated that the reason why women played vital role during the last general election in Owerri Federal Constituency in particular and Owerri zone at large was as a result of the full support given to them by Sir Ejiogu, pointing out that if he was not so reliable and focus in the pursuit of APCs victory, there was no way the party would have succeeded in the area.
Lady Opara who is also the leader of various women groups in the state regretted that despite the efforts of the women to ensure the victory of the party against all odds in the constituency, some government functionaries from the area are seeing them as enemies instead of partners, and called on them to emulate the leadership style of the immediate past Chief Scribe of the state whom she said, has remained seriously in touch with them even though he is not holding political appointed.
In their separate speeches on behalf of their respective LGAs, Deaconess Onwana Chioma (Owerri Municipal), Mrs. Kate Nwuneka (Owerri West) and Nneoma Stella Isiguzo (Owerri North) expressed surprise that if when he has left office as SGI, Sir Ejiogu has not stopped showing them love, but regretted that those who failed in their pooling boots but later gained political appointments by gossip are today, eating and laughing at them.
According to them, the women laboured, toiled under the rain and sun to fulfill the mandate of their apex leader which was to deliver candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but expressed bitterness that those they stuck their lives for suddenly turned their backs against them for reasons best known to them.
The women therefore called on their colleagues not to allow the treatment meted out on them to deter anyone from playing major role in the forthcoming election, while appealing to their apex leader to continue to remain firm in his efforts to unite people of the constituency.
